The Covid Pandemic has had a devastating impact worldwide. In the Himalaya, with tourism and climbing closed, most Sherpa’s have lost their key source of income for the year. For now the mountains are virus free, but the families are facing financial hardship and there are growing concerns for food security. Very little grows in the mountains and most of the food supplies has to be flown in from Kathmandu. Specifically, the villages in the Everest region, renowned for climbing has been hit hard.  Across the world in New York, the Sherpa community was in the heart of the US COVID pandemic in Queens, NY where many community members were said to be COVID positive. The Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Foundation was able to support some Covid relief initiatives in the Everest Region, in Darjeeling and New York.
